+0900

Extensive Reading Service Beta

CEFR(Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)ていうところの、A2-B1程度の英文を80語程度、となっています。

<details class="swell-block-accordion__item" data-swl-acc="wrapper">

</details>

That’s Okay! | Extensive Reading Materials by AI | AI-generated teaching materials website for learning English

Apple | That’s Okay! | Extensive Reading Materials by AI

<a class="link" titles?

In this video, both are explained as the same job. Either can be used, so both are used. For example, Google adopt software engineers, and Amazon adopt software developers.

Do you think someone’s seniority at a company should be reflected in their title? Why or why not?

I don’t think that someone’s seniority should be reflected in their title. In my opiniton, we should reflect the competence and role in their titile.

What new information did you learn from this video?

In japan, some people call person who solely program code as ‘Programmer’. But as this video says, I believe programmers and software engineers are the same.

Don’t forget, if the video is too fast, you can adjust the playback speed of YouTube videos from the*Settings*menu.

Read this article from “USA Today” and answer the following questions:

Q: What’s the most scenic hike you’ve ever been on? Where was it and what made it so beautiful?

The most impressive scene that I have ever seen while hiking was the snowy landscape at the top of the mountain. At that time, I didn’t live in Tokyo. I lived in rural. The mountain was close to my house, and not high. But the snow made the hike a little difficult. It was challenging for me because I had never hiked alone****in the snow. In deep snow, my knees were buried.

I was alone, but there were many hikers, so I felt safe. There were elderly people. There were also male and female couples. Everyone enjoyed hiking on the snow. Because it was a little difficult, I felt the snowy landscape at the top of the mountain was so beautiful.

However, there was one thing that I was worried about. On my way back down, I saw a couple. When I saw them on my way to the top, they seemed to get along well, but at that time, they did not seem to get along. The woman looked tired. The man looked worried. I said “hello”. The man said “hello”. The woman said nothing.

I hope that the snowy scene at the top of the mountain made up for them.

“in my hiking” → “while hiking”

“made me a little difficult” → “made the hike a little difficult”

“because I had never hiked in the snow alone” → “because I had never hiked alone in the snow”

“my knees were buried in snow” (repetition of “snow”) → “my knees were buried”

“There were also old people” → “There were elderly people”

“Because it was a little difficult” → “Because it was slightly difficult”

“When I was backing from the top” → “On my way back down”

“The man said ‘hello’” → “The man responded with a ‘hello’”

“I hope that the snowy scene at the top of the mountain made up for them” → “I hope that the snowy scene at the top of the mountain brought them some solace”

In this video lesson from VoA News, you will learn about Compound Nouns.

https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/everyday-grammar-compound-nouns/4584874.html

After you watch it, write a new sentence for each one of these words (a total of four sentences):

earthquake

In Japan, there are many earthquake.

day dream

When I was a student, I often day dreamed during class.

When I’m tired form work, I often have a daydream about becoming very rich.

full moon

I took a walk in the night because full moon was beautiful.

public speaking

I’m a little nervous about public speaking.

What is the most interesting city to visit in your country?

In my opinion, the most interesting city to visit in Japan is Nara. Although Nara is not as famous as Tokyo or Kyoto, but it is a city with a long history. Kyoto also has a long history, but Nara’s history is more long than Kyoto.

Nara was a capital city in Japan during 8th century. The emperor of Japan lived in Nara at that time. A lot of temples and shrines were built. Especially, Todaiji is one of the most largest temple in wooden architecture. Besides, Kasuga Taisha shrine, which is one of the most famous shirne in Japan, was built near Todaiji Temple. Both still exist.

The religion of Todaiji is Buddhism, and the religion of Kasuga Tiasha shrine is Shinto, which is Japanese traditonal religion. They are different religion. However, we often visit both. For example, on the evening of December 31, we go to Todaiji Temple. After that, when the date changes to January 1, we go to Kasuga Taisha Shrine. We pray at both.

It may seem strange, but I feel it is a very Japanse. In Nara, you can experience that.

宿題

Make, let, and alloware about permission.

Here are the ways we use make, let, and allow(from ESL Lounge): https://www.esl-lounge.com/student/grammar-guides/grammar-intermediate-3.php#make-let-allow

You can practice more at ESL Lounge: http://www.esl-lounge.com/student/grammar/3g84-intermediate-make-let-allow-error-correction.php

Answer the questions below.

What are two things that your parents made you do when you were a small child?

When I was a small child, my parents made me study at least one hour every day. What is art depends on the era. For example, it is a mural, stone statue, painting. These days there is electronic art such as virtual reality art. Thus, Art has the characteristics of its time. However, there is one thing in common. It is difficult to preserve them. If we do nothing, things will be broken. Electronic things may not be broken, but what can play it will be lost. So we need to make an effort to preserve art.

To preserve art can help us to imagine the past. Thanks to the people of the past, now we live in developed society, so we must not forget past. We can learn a lot of things from past. Additionaly, art will be the way that the peopel of the future can imagine us. I think that to preserve art is to connect the past to the future.

Let’s practice negatives.

Here are the rules for using no, none, none of, and not (from Cambridge).

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/grammar/british-grammar/quantifiers/no-none-and-none-of
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/grammar/british-grammar/no-or-not

Write a short paragraph below about something that you don’t have.

I don’t have a latest graphic card. My graphic card was made in 2017. At that time, it was the most cutting-edge. But now it is outdated. These days I always check prices of graphic cards.

Write a short paragraph below about something that you’re not.

I’m not good at listening English. So I’m listening English during going to the office every day. I like English songs, especially classic rock songs. For example, the Beatles, Carpenters. I want to be able to listen them.

Speaking

In your life time what changes have you seen in your environment for better or worse?

I’m not sure whether it is about environment or not, but I feel that I see less snow than when I was child. In fact, there is less snow in Japan than in the past. I’m not sure whether that is due to global warming. I used to work with a doctor of meteorology. I asked him if the earth was warming, he said he didn’t know. I think his attitude was prudent. I don’t know precise things. However, at least the earth is not colding.

In Japan, many people insist that global warming is a serious problem. I think about two or three years ago, Japan started charging for plastic bags. Now we pay 5 yen, which is about 7 cent, to buy them. It is a little inconvenient. I’m not sure whether it is truly useful to protect environment.

In fact, it is difficult for me to understand environment. However, I would like to see a little more snow.

Here are some phrases we use to talk about how often we do something from Education First and Perfect English Grammar:

http://www.ef.edu/english-resources/english-grammar/adverbs-time/

https://www.perfect-english-grammar.com/adverbs-of-frequency.html

Answer the questions below in complete sentences.

For example: What days of the week do you work?

I work on Mondays and Tuesdays/I work every Monday and Tuesday.

How often do you exercise?

I go jogging about three or four times a week.

How often do you visit your parents?

My parents live far away from my home, so I visit them about three times a year during my vacation.

How often do you finish reading a book?

I read about one book a week.

How often do you do laundry?

I do laundry every day.

How often do you have meetings?

I have meetings every day. It’s terrible.

What days of the week do you work?

I work from Monday to Friday.

What days of the week do you study English?
Of course, I study English every day!

Speaking

Describe wave technology. What is it, What is it used for, etc, etc.

I’m a software engineer, and I’m developing IoT service. IoT stands for Internet of Things. To connect things to the Internet, we need to use wave technology.

Wave technology may sound a little difficult, but it is very familiar to us. For example, wi-fi is a kind of wave technology. Wave technology enalbes us to enjoy the Internet. Thanks for wave technology, I can take this English lesson. Thank you.

Despite the fact we use wave technology every day, we usually don’t think about it. One of the reasons may be that waves are invisible. We can’t understand invisible things easily. Some people misunderstand waves. One or two years ago, some people said vaccine for covid-19 connect us to 5G. I was confused. Of course, we can’t directly be connected to 5G. It is non sense.

Understanding wave technology may be a little difficult. Wi-fi is familier to us, but other techonoloies are not always familier. For example, LPWA, which stands for Low Power Wide area, is a kind of wave technology and often used in IoT, but maybe most people haven’t ever heard.

In addition, my business is related to agricultural IoT, but farmers often don’t use the Internet. In Japan, most farmers are old. The average age of farmers in Japan is 67 old years. Sometimes they don’t have even smartphones. I think that before things do the Internet, human sholud do the Internet.

I beleive that our sevice is useful for them, but getting them to use our service is more difficult than understanding wave technology.

Watch this video about small talk from Lighthouse Communications: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT72ON0Tz0M

Then, answer the questions below.

have a story

ask questions and listens

Be Present

Watch the news and headlines

Do you feel comfortable making small talk? Why or why not?

I may not feel very comfortable because I’m not used to small talk. Please write a paragraph about a story you could use to make small talk.

Recently I often have talked with ChatGPT. ChatGPT is very smart, but what it says sometimes doesn’t make sense. I’m a software engineer, and I asked ChatGPT to program. However, the code didn’t work well. I said it was wrog. ChatGPT said “I’m apologized for my mistake” and fixed it immediately. But, the fixed code didn’t work. I programed after all.

Recently I often have talked with ChatGPT. ChatGPT is very smart, but what it says sometimes doesn’t make sense. I’m a software engineer, and I often ask ChatGPT to program. However, the code frequently doesn’t work well. If I I say it is wrong. ChatGPT always say “I’m apologized for my mistake” and fix it immediately. But, the fixed code frequently doesn’t work, and I program after all.

Speaking

What programming language have you used and describe the process you use for writing a piece of code.

I have mainly used python and JavaScript language. They are different, but I think same things when I program.

First, I think what should I do? Specifically, what are input parameters, what should be output, how is acceptable performance, are there any prohibitive conditions, etc.

Next, I think about the code that can solve the conditions. I think flow of the program.

Finally, I begin to program. Sometimes I write test code first if the code would be complex. Sometimes I ask ChatGPT to generate code. If it works well, it is good.

Android

Writing?Reading?

Check out these photos from around the world from Business Insider: The best photos from 66 countries, according to the largest competition in the world

Choose two photos that you particularly like. It looks lika a forest somewhere. Is it a photograph? There are differences between camera and eyes. I think even if I went there, I couldn’t see this scene by my eyes. There are scenes that only human eyes can see, and there are scenes that only cameras can capture. I think both of them are true. I want to go there.

Austria, Julian Walkner

Sony World Photography Awards

On a snowy mountain, a human is sliding with snow splash. The human is dynamic and small, and the mountain is static and large. That contrast is good.

Speaking?

What is a typical day like for you?

Every morning, I usually get up before 8a.m. I jog around my house for about 20 or 30 minutes. After that I have breakfast. However, if I went to bed late the day before, I sometimes get up around 9a.m. I have to begin to work at least 10a.m. It takes about one hour to go to the office. So, if I get up late, I don’t have time to have breakfast. If I’m tired, I sometimes work at home. I can work at home twice a week.

I work until about 12. Then, I have lunch. I often go to a restaurant with my colleagues. After that, I work again. I design architecture, program and attend the meeting. I work until about 7 or 8pm.

After work, I go to the supermarket to buy groceries and then go home. I cook and eat dinner. Then I do something relax until bedtime.

It is my typical day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kas2jBObUY

Watch What do I do as a Software Engineer? from mayuko and answer the following questions:

Mayuko says she spends 20% of her time collaborating with cross-functional roles. It was three days before the deadline. I really wanted to finish it long before, but I couldn’t. It was a very hard task. The web system that I need to operate was very complex. In Japan, we can get our individual number card for taxes, which is called my number card. However, the procedure of this card is also complex. Everything was very complex. So when I completed my task, my holiday was over. I’m going to have a good rest next holiday.

宿題

Daily Schedule - Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab

Every morning, I wake up at 8am and make a cup of coffee.

When I go to the office, I check news on the train.

Before work, I write down what I have to do.

After work, I jog about 30 minutes.

Before going to bed, I usually do a light stretch.

When do people usually make small talk?

We make small talk in social situations. For example, when I meet someone for the first time. The other day I went to a bar with my friend. My friend took his friend who I hadn’t ever seen. So we talked about living area, our jobs, our hobbies, and so on. I think that was typically small talk.

Of course, we make small talk in work also. For example, before starting work, I frequently talk with my colleagues. We talk about anything. Software testing enables us to test systems under various conditions automatically. Without software testing, we need to do a lot of things in order to support all conditions that users would do. Users do things we don’t expect. For example, when we want users to input password, users often type unexpected characters. Especially in Japan, there are people who type Japanese. Japanese input frequently cause unexpected system trouble. In fact, even in Windows, Japanese user name often occur trouble.

When trouble occur, both of users and developers are unhappy. To prevent trouble, it is important to think about things that users do in advance. That is software testing.

YouTube

ため池

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KER6GzfXKik

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KwGbjqJM7w

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aqKfBHgxBI

https://youtu.be/7D328KlM8rE
